Introduction
Global developments regarding Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies continue to increase. The country's first Bitcoin ATM was installed in the Romanian national post office, Poșta Română, and integrated into the crypto network.
Romania Supports Bitcoin
Romania offers a cryptocurrency exchange called BTR (Bitcoin Romania). Romania's national postal service, Poșta Română, has partnered with the Bitcoin Romania (BTR) exchange to install its first Bitcoin ATM at a branch location in Tulcea. According to a statement from the postal service, the next Bitcoin BTCUSD ATMs will be installed in Alexandria, Piatra Neamț, Botoșani and Nădlac.
With these ATMs, citizens of the country have the opportunity to access cryptocurrencies through the Blockchain network. In addition, by renewing the existing infrastructure with Blockchain technology, services in the country are brought to more advanced levels. Efforts are being made to provide this service in regions with limited access.
Bitcoin adoption is increasing day by day with states, companies, institutions, businesses and individual investors. Bitcoin adoption is steadily increasing through means such as nation states purchasing BTC for national strategic reserves. In January 2025, cryptocurrency exchange Binance announced that the number of wallets holding BTC worth over $100 has reached almost 30 million. In addition, according to the 2025 first quarter report of Bitcoin financial services company River, only 4 percent of the global population owns BTC and the highest concentration of Bitcoin owners is in the US. According to the report, an estimated 14 percent of individuals in the US will own BTC by 2025.
Bitcoin ATMs placed in national post office locations throughout Romania show that lawmakers, national governments and public institutions are increasingly embracing cryptocurrencies and responding to the increasing demand for digital assets.
